On regular days, it’s hard enough to be separated from our elderly loved ones and be unable to make sure that they have the assistance and care they need 24/7. The pandemic and the travel restrictions that come with it have made this even more challenging. No stranger to this predicament, the minds and hearts at Kalinga Health created a solution that will allow out-of-state family members to ensure that their beloved seniors are well taken care of.

“How?” you may ask.

Well, the Kalinga Health app can be used by anyone anywhere in Australia to book capable and reliable carers for their elderly relatives within our coverage areas across the Metro Sydney area.

And it’s so easy and stress-free to use. You can access Kalinga through our web app on any browser, or simply download and install the app from your device’s app store (available on iTunes and Google Play Store) and fill in the details such as the patient’s name, location, preferred days and times for the health care worker to come in, job frequency (if this is a repeating engagement), budget, and the language you prefer the carer to use when communicating with the patient. Once you post the job, you can wait for Kalinga Health’s health care worker members to connect with you.

Alternately, you may also use our search engine to look through our roster of professional carers and directly get in touch with them. You don’t have to do an endless search either, just use our handy search filters to narrow down your candidates easily. Then you can invite them to apply for the care job opportunity and discuss job details with the Kalinga Health Carer via our private messaging system.

After the job is done, you can pay through our secure payment portal. You can do this from wherever you are in Australia.

“Okay. Sounds easy enough. But how can I be sure I’m working with someone who knows what they’re doing?” is another question that may occur to you.

Kalinga Health requires carers to submit extensive profile information that includes their credentials, capabilities, certifications, availabilities and the like. Additionally, their viewable user profile will contain reviews and ratings from previous clients so you can make an informed decision on who to hire as your care provider.

Additionally, you may also submit your own review of the home health care provider’s performance – ask your elderly senior if they found the care satisfactory. We’re interested to know how our carers are doing and want to ensure that we’re always keeping our clients safe, secure, and properly cared for because we want to maintain a high standard to care at Kalinga Health. You can also use our star-rating system, seen on the Kalinga Health Carer’s profile, to guide others on how your carer performed.

Finally, you may wonder, “Are you COVID-safe though? I want to make sure my mum (or dad or nana or pops) are not exposed to the coronavirus.”

We understand your concerns and Kalinga Health as a company is COVID-safe and we’re fully dedicated to doing our part in protecting our community and preventing the spread of COVID-19. That’s why we encourage you to do your due diligence when you interview your home health care worker applicant so that both your loved one and the carer are COVID-safe and protected.

A key point to consider is to ensure that your Health Care Worker has undergone the COVID-19 Infection Control training before engaging them -rest assured that Kalinga Carers are required to have taken the training for everyone’s safety. This is especially important if your senior loved ones are especially vulnerable (if they have co-morbidities). So please be sure to also inform the Kalinga Health Carer of the health conditions of the patient. Aside from this, Kalinga Carers who experience COVID-19 symptoms or have been exposed to positive cases are required to isolate and get tested to make sure that we don’t contribute further to the transmission of the virus.

You can also make sure that the carer and your relative have access to PPEs and hygiene and sanitizing equipment or solutions so that they can keep themselves and their points of contact as virus-free as they can.

Inform your elderly loved one about COVID-19-related hygiene protocol as well as physical distancing guidelines, and make sure to ask the prospective carer about their familiarity with these during the interview. If possible, have a temperature check set-up near the entry to the house.

You can also read these infosheets from the Australian health ministry regarding health care work during the pandemic so that you know what to watch out for and ask when you interview the applicant for the position:

Coronavirus (COVID-19) advice for the health and disability sector
Working arrangements for the health, aged care and disability workforce during COVID-19
